New Moon

I know I talked up the movie for MONTHS and I went to go see it on opening day and then… nothing. I didn’t put my 2 cents in at all. Shame on me.

Well the first 20 minutes were awful. I just sat there thinking oh my, if the rest of the movie is like this I don’t even want to finish it, everything was so strained and everyone was trying too hard. But then it picked up the moment Edward told Bella he was leaving her (how not cool is that, the moment the love interest leaves it gets better). In the movie, Edward and Bella have little-to-no on screen chemistry. I thought this was because I was bias towards the way I thought the movie should have been made. But no, apparently I wasn’t so bias since I thought Jacob and Bella have AMAZING chemistry on screen. If I only saw the movies and not read the books I would be a die hard Team Jacob. And seriously, I repeatedly had to remind myself that the shirtless Taylor Lautner (the actor who plays Jacob) is almost 10 years my junior, because let me tell you what, yummy! (oh yeah, and as a side note, I’m happily married ;D I also loved the wolf pack, all of them. If all of the actors had embodied their characters the way the wolf pack had this would have made an amazing movie.

My favorite character Alice gets actual screen time in this movie which I really liked. They somehow managed to screw up her line, “How opposed are you to grand theft auto?” And someone had a major wardrobe mishap on her outfit in Italy. All in all though I enjoyed seeing more of her, she probably did the second best job out the vampires (first was Carlisle, Edward probably came third).

Victoria’s hair was a much deeper auburn red then the first book. Which at first was a shocker, but it totally worked. She did a wonderful job of scaring me in the cliff diving/drowning scene (her hair was described in the book like fire in the water). Unfortunately they’re casting an entirely different actress for Victoria for the 3rd movie (remember M. Night Shyamalan’s The Lady In the Water, that lady), I’m not really happy about that. This Victoria rocks all by herself.

They did include my favorite scene in the entire series, which I was afraid they were going to leave out since it had to do with the idea of Heaven. I think it was probably the best line that Edward gave in the movie, when Bella runs into Edward and he thinks he’s died and gone to Heaven (literally and he hadn’t believed in vampires having afterlives) the only evidence he has is the supposedly dead Bella is in his arms (it’s wonderfully romantic in the book, I promise).

I liked it (after the first 20 minutes). I’m gonna go see it again (I saw Twilight in theaters 8 times). The first time I saw Twilight I had to critique everything and didn’t enjoy it as much as the 2nd (or 3rd or 4th…) time. So I’m hoping I can just enjoy New Moon the next time around rather than feeling like I have to give it a grade.

  1. Gee wheeze Märia; don’t be such a movie critic. I thought it was a great movie and I will have to see it again just for fun! Remember you have to be a part of the cult following, after all it was you who got us all started on this…

    Love, Dad
