Another year, another GAR

So it was the Great Aloha Run time of the year again.  Something was different this year though… We took our kids!  We knew it would take a lot of energy what with getting our kids up at 4 am and running 8 miles and all, so we started them off with a good breakfast.

Yeah, they didn’t eat it.  We got up earlier than we needed to so we could make Seporah’s favorite meal, eggs and bacon.  But when we got there, the well intentioned GAR volunteers gave us little kiddy packs with cookies and chips and crackers and such, and as soon as the kids saw that, they wouldn’t touch the eggs and bacon and oranges.

Yeah, the cannon went off, and we didn’t move.  Just like every year.  Strollers to the back of the line!  Children are second class citizens!  I think I have found my next calling, I am going to start rallys for children’s rights in marathons!  Anyway, we had plenty of time at the starting line for pictures.

Seporah actually probably ran 1.5 of the first 4 miles… a quarter mile at a time of course.  She alternated between WALK WALK WALK WALK WALK (which meant she wanted to run with us) and SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT.  Back and forth.  The last 4 miles she just sat in the stroller and pouted though.  We brought along the little laptop and she watched Backyardigans for the last 2 miles.

Märia and I pretty much carried Felicity the whole time.

The girls totally passed out afterwards.  They were done.

Of course by the time we got home Seporah was up from her nap.  Mommy and Daddy need sleep?  Of course not… They are Mommy and Daddy!  Here we are wearing our finisher shirts.  I actually lost my shirt tag while carrying a child… it came attached to our running numbers and you were supposed to rip it off at the end, but it ripped off in the middle… But a nice GAR volunteer gave me a shirt anyways.

Wish us luck… Märia just invited us over to spend the week of the San Diego Rock N’ Roll Marathon with Sarah and Jason.  So yeah, from 8.14 to 26.2 in 4 months… We will see how that goes.  =)

Salmon patties anyone?

Yeah, about every two months I make salmon patties, convinced that this time everyone will like them. Märia has never liked them, and the girls go back and forth on them. Neither ate theirs today. So yeah, there are a bunch of extra salmon patties here if you guys want some. =)
picture-1Also, the guy who left the rude comment on my dad’s post is a weirdo. I googled him and he is an artist specializing in nude wire sculptures.  I wonder what his neighbors think when he asks them if they have any screen doors they are ready to throw away?

All Hail the Messiah Who Will Save Us All

This is a quote I heard today, a direct quote. It hit me so hard that I couldn’t have forgotten a word if I wanted to, and I did/do!

SPC Bennett (name changed to protect the innocent) got a really nice assignment. He is going to Italy where he will work for NATO. He is having a hard time getting a Top Secret clearance though due to some bad financial history. But I know everything is going to work out because Obama is president now, and he is all about the soldiers.

What do we do now?

From our Association rules book:

No occupant shall make or permit any disturbing noises in the building, garage,
roadways, or pool parking lot by himself, his family, friends or guests, nor permit
anything to be done by such person that would interfere with the rights, comforts, or
convenience of other residents.
a. Musical instruments: No occupant shall play any musical instrument on the
premises if the same would disturb or annoy other occupants of the building,

Ouch! And we just had our first complaint. The guard said that 8:45 am was too early to be playing the piano.

Work Schedules

Yeah, so if you look at the calendar (it is over there ———>) you will notice that we didn’t post anything on the 12th or 14th. Yeah, Märia worked the 12-14, and I posted the valentines day pics on the night of the 13th so you guys could wake up to them. But I probably wouldn’t have posted otherwise. =) So I went back farther in the calendar, and found that by and large if there are no posts on a day, that means Märia was working that day. So you guys can totally track her work schedule, if you care to. I would say you guys probably have better things to do, but you do read our blogs. =)

Happy St. Valentine’s Day 2009

I should have mentioned this before, but Märia wrote earlier that you had to wait on the valentines pictures that Karen took, and I just forgot to reemphasize that Auntie Karen took these pictures. =) Thanks Auntie Karen!

Seporah is THAT sunbeam

Anyone who has taught sunbeams, or primary in general really, knows that there is that one kid who has to sit next to the teacher. For Märia and I that kid was a wonderful little ball of energy by the name of Parker Ghering. He was the kid who knew more scripture stories than the rest of our kids combined, and when he REALLY focused, he could be a really well behaved kid. It was obvious that he did scripture stories all week long with his parents, and probably had a double dose before church. Unfortunately it also seemed he was bribed with sweet tarts to sit through these lessons. With a double dose before church. =) So he was that kid for us.

So I was peeking in to the primary to see how Seporah was doing the other day (a real no no peoples, don’t do that – primary teachers hate it! But I didn’t get seen by Seporah, so it was ok) yeah, peeking in to see how Seporah was doing and she was doing ok, sitting right next to the sunbeam teacher. So yeah, Seporah is that sunbeam. =) But trying hard!

PS – Seporah just pooed in the potty for the first time – at Karen’s house of course. But I got there in time to wipe. =) Go Seporah and Karen!

Sundays without Märia

aren’t fun. =) So instead of telling you about walking two girls up to church, sitting through 3 hours with them (well except Seporah is finally in Sunbeams – there is a story there all by itself), and walking them back down, I will share a Seporah Quote with you all.

Me: Seporah, what sound does a dog make.
Seporah: Ruff Ruff Ruff (panting with her tongue hanging out, and trying to lick you)
Me: What sound does a cat make?
Seporah: Meoooowwwww
Me: What sound does a duck make?
Seporah: Quack Quack Quack
Me: What sound does a chicken make?
Seporah: Cluck Cluck Cluck
Me: What sound does a lion make?
Seporah: Raaarrrrr
Me: What sound does a Bear make?
Seporah: Raaaarrrrrrr
Me: What sound does a mouse make?
Seporah: Eeeek Eeeeeek
Me: What sound does a horse make?
Seporah: Yeeeeeee Haaaawwwwww!

I think there is a little cowgirl in her. =)
