Here’s Hoping For a Good Year in Kindergarden

We had Seporah’s IEP (Individualized Education Plan) meeting today for school. It went about how Steven and I had expected. Seporah’s progressing well, but still behind in some areas including speech and socially. The plan for next year is Seporah will go into a regular Kindergarden for most of the day and have a helper during that time and then go to Special Education about 2 hours a day for language arts/speech and math. The helper will be there in the classroom, but not right next to her holding her hand and such. Which is good because we don’t want her to develop a dependence on someone else.

We just found out her teacher is not returning to the school next year due to family issues. We’re really sorry to see her go especially since she’s been so great with Seporah, but we do understand that family comes first. She really is a wonderful teacher and Steven and I feel quite blessed that Seporah was placed in her class. When we first realized Seporah needed more attention than we could give her and the most likely place she was going to get it was Hawaii’s public school system, we were worried. Hawaii’s public school system is dead last in the nation. But thankfully it has been a very positive experience and we can see significant growth in Seporah over the last year. Growth that I’m sure would not have happened had we not had her in school.
