Happy (Belated) Birthday Steven!

I’m thinking Steven’s birthday kinda sucked this year. His wife probably sobbed 3 or 4 times that day and couldn’t even sing Happy Birthday, let alone make a cake or anything productive like that. And the birthday gift she ordered in the mail has yet to come. Steven though took it all in stride, not even worrying a little bit. Steven’s just wonderful like that.

I often think how incredibly lucky I am to have Steven. He’s the most kind, gentle, considerate, supportive and patient companion I could ask for. As time goes on it only amazes me more and more.

It’s been 8 years since he proposed. Initially I didn’t understand what he was doing. He had taken a bucket and began washing my feet (that being not a normal thing to do, I was beyond confused). He then went on to explain that the greatest example of service he knew of was when Jesus washed the disciple’s feet and all he wanted to do was serve me all his life. It really was a terribly romantic proposal and obviously I said yes. At the time I just assumed he would live up to the promise like any naive little girl in love. And you know what, he does, every single day. I’m sure he wakes up every day still and thinks how can I make this day better for Märia.

Although life isn’t always the easiest, in fact far from it sometimes, I feel like I can get through it with Steven at my side. I get to be one of those people that not only love the person they’re married to, but like them as well, a lot. He’s the one I rely on and want to talk to about everything.

Happy Birthday. I love you.

  1. Wow, that was a great tribute to a very good man. Märia you are a lucky woman to have such a wonderful husband. The two of you have been blessed and will have all eternity to share special moments together.

Thank you, Steven; I appreciate the person you are and for taking such care of my only daughter. You are a special young man and deserve the blessings of heaven. I hope that Pam and I can always be there to provide love and support to you and your family.

  2. Wow! Your post made me cry. I am just so happy that the two of you only grow closer and closer, and am in awe, because that is just so rare. Steven is a wonderful man, and Maria (with an umlaut), you are a wonderful woman!
