There’s Gonna Be Another Märia

For those of you unaware of my namesakes, let me enlighten you. Here are all the Märia’s I know in my family:
My Great-Great-Great-Step-Grandmother
My Great-Great-Grandmother
My Great-Grandmother
My Aunt Märia Gail
Me, Märia Diane
And Soon to Be My Niece, Märia Christine

Yeppers that’s right, one more Märia. My older brother Russell and his wife, Leslie are expecting and due at the end of this month. Naturally I should probably get them a gift, especially due to the name thing.

Now I’m not really good at the whole mailing thing (I have cards for just about every holiday in my house plus gifts for several people that just sit and collect dust in my house). BUT my dad is going to be here in 2 weeks, so I figured he could just take them home with him. Hah! Problem solved (Tangent: actually I really, really hate the post office, and I’m sorry your gifts are here in this house, but I do upkeep a blog so I figure I’m good, right?). So I’ve got a few outfits for the baby, those are prerequisites, but then I also feel mom’s should get something as well, to welcome them to the club (I mean besides stained clothing and sleep deprivation, I’ve tried to tell God that’s hazing, He doesn’t seem to be listening).

Some of the things I’ve gotten new moms over the past couple of years (well since becoming one myself and knowing what you actually need besides one more layette item) are gift certificates to their favorite restaurant plus a take out menu, home made freezer meals, lotions, scrapbook stuff, humorous books about new motherhood, pajamas, and stuff like that. I don’t know what kind of restaurant Leslie visits, I can’t really send a frozen meal home with my dad, lotions are ok, but slightly impersonal, she can borrow all the scrapbook stuff she wants from my mom, I don’t think she likes to read, and I couldn’t find pajamas in her size (I think she’s literally a size 0). This put me in quite the predicament, plus it’s going back in my Dad’s luggage so it’s gotta be small (hey Dad, I guess this is your warning to leave a little extra room).

I sat there and sat there and then I came up with a brilliant idea-an Emergency Mommy Kit (I am quite proud of my idea, not quite as cool as food or a trip to the spa, but considering). I got a really cute makeup bag and put travel size items of lotion, deodorant, chapstick, hand sanitizer, tissues, toothbrush, lifesavers, and chocolate. Like for in the car. When you’re like “snaps, I need ____!“ I think it’s cool. Don’t worry, I’m pretty sure she doesn’t read this blog, so she’ll still be surprised.

  1. Brilliant! And I appreciate the insights into what a new mommy really wants. Congratulations to Leslie and Russell!

  2. Okay, room is available in the Albright moving and luggage company. And, BTW, I think she does actually read your Blog so I think you have lost the element of surprise. Nonetheless, the idea is well founded and the Märia family history is now there for posterity. See you on the 13th…

    Love you, Dad

  3. Actually believe it or not, I have checked the history on her account on the computer, and she has not visited your site in well over a month, so your secret is safe. FYI, chocolate covered macadamia nuts are her ABSOLUTE favorite kind of chocolate.

Other ideas, she LOVES Red Lobster, and to confirm, yes prior to her pregnancy she was still buying items in the girls section of the stores (IE size 0 maybe size 1) Everyone at her work still hates the fact that she can sit and eat 2 large (that equates out to about 1/4 of a 10″ double layer cake) slices of double chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and not gain 1 pound!!! It is incredible what this woman can put away.

FYI, tonight she had bracken hicks contractions for about 2 hours, the mid-wife told her to take a nice hot bath and then they went away. So it really could be anyday now. (That is what the mid-wife said last week at her checkup.)

We have set the date for the baby blessing, it will be the first sunday of August and the rumor mill has Märia Gail coming up for the weekend. Hey Märia Diane if you could come that would be awesome, or maybe during the thanksgiving holiday we are going down to Southern California (week before the actually holiday)

Miss you tons Mär Mär. Would love to see my neices again soon

    Your big brother,
    Russell

  4. Well I know we won’t be able to come in August, we were going to try and make it next week, but that didn’t happen. I got the time off and everything, but the bonus Steven was suppose to get from joining the National Guard back in March has not happened yet and we plain just don’t have the money to spend on another trip to the mainland (we went to the mainland just last month). We’ll see about November.
