At Least It’s Not Cancer Right?

A psychiatrist officially diagnosed Seporah with autism today. I really don’t know enough about autism to make a rational conclusion. I only know the basics. I’m definitely in the denial stage… or maybe the anger stage… or maybe the depression stage, can you be in all 3 at once?

  1. Well there are definately different degrees ( I know that much). Some children have severe cases where they have difficulty functioning in public, while others have mild cases where they function quite nicely with just a few alterations to life. Did he/she throw out the Asperger term at all? If they did, that is a better thing to hear. But hey…. perhaps that’s just their first guess. Seporah might actually be a 100% healthy girl, imagine that 🙂 If you ever need someone to talk or cry with… I’ll always be here.

  2. Well I read a bit. Not very much. But it seems that Asperger’s is high functioning autism with no speech delays. Seporah definitely has speech delays, so it wouldn’t be that.

Very large range, the book I’m reading says Beethoven, Einstein and Thomas Jefferson all landed in the “autistic spectrum.” So you never know, maybe she’ll be a genius ;). And I’m pretty sure she’ll be high-functioning.

  3. I have a student that has been diagnosed as austistic by one doc and then given an “not austistic” diagnosis by another. I have only been around Seporah twice and I did not pick up on anything. Not that I am an expert but this really takes me by surprise.
