City of Embers

You know those people at movies, the ones you love to hate. Who have the audacity to bring their kids to a movie on Saturday night instead of hiring a babysitter. Who when their kids cry don’t actually take them out but to the back of the theater. Who buy an extra large popcorn, let their kid spill it, and then don’t even bother to pick up their mess. We are sooo those people.

To be fair, today was the first time we brought the girls to see a non-animated flick and we thought it was a kid movie. While City of Embers was family friendly, I would not say it’s a kid movie. It had none of the gags or bodily humor or silly antics of say Holes. It took itself very seriously, more so than most adult films (and no that’s not what I meant). Steven and I actually really enjoyed it (and not because we’re extremely movie sheltered) and we want to recommend to all those who have never heard of it (since no one has, that would include you). I won’t tell you the premise, google it if you’d like, or just walk in and watch it without having any clue. Hopefully those people won’t be in the same theater.

  1. Yea, those people can be soooo annoying… 🙂 But my granddaughters never make any noise in theaters because they are great!

We went to see “The Secret Life of Bees” yesterday at your urging and found it to be very good. I would recommend it to anyone with a babysitter as it is not a kid’s movie. And no, I did not cry!

Glad to see you guys are getting out some; keep smiling and love those crooked teeth. After all, it is only $4,000 or $5,000 to get braces; something exciting to look forward to!

    Love you guys, Grandpa Russ

  2. Your dad lies! He bawled like a baby at the Secret Life of Bees, I was crying too, but when I felt him shaking and looked up and saw the tears I whispered in his ear “Märia was right.”

We did see the movie poster at the theater for City of Embers, maybe that will be our next flick.

Glad you all got out and enjoyed yourselves. BTW: sitting next to us were two adults who dumped their popcorn and didn’t do a thing about, not even any kids to blame.

    Love you.
    Mom
