Ok, just about all of you know that I am a huge fan of Orson Scott Card. It started in the 4th grade when I stole a copy of “Ender’s Game” from the local book fair, and my dad read the book, and then I did. So by my count, he has been my hero for 20 years now. I have probably read 90% of everything he has written, and the 10% I simply haven’t been able to find, or it was published back before they started putting everything on the web.
That being said, we are political polar opposites. I tend towards Libertarianism, OSC calls himself a Democrat, but actually is more of a Communitarian. If you know anything at all about Libertarians and Communitarians, you know that they are absolutely opposite. In every way. On every issue. And yet I cannot stop reading his political commentary, if only because he is incredibly fair, properly representing every side in any arguement.
I just read OSC’s article on unions. I am very anti union, he is very pro union. I challenge you to read this article and tell me where he misrepresents anyone at all, where he is in any way unfair. Even if you have no thoughts on Unions, or don’t care or whatever, please read this article, if only to see what a fair article looks like. I don’t know that I have seen one before this in years. Maybe never. Really.
