A Preschool Moment…

So I was asked today by two of my afternoon kids where goldfish crackers came from.  I thought about it and was going to tell them that they probably bought them at Walmart or Costco.  But before I could answer one of them asked…  “do they come from the ocean?”  Then the other child asked, “did you have to go and catch them.”   I could hardly contain my laughter.  So I called the other teacher in and had the children ask her the same questions.  She too laughed and asked them if they smelt like they came from the ocean.  Both the girls picked one up… put it to their nose and took a big sniff.  Then in almost one unison voice they announced that … “yes, they do smell like they came from the ocean.”  So it’s obvious that these girls were listening during circle time and the discussions that were made about water, who and what needs water, and how important it is for our world. And in the end… I don’t think we ever did tell them where goldfish crackers really come from. Hee Hee

  1. If they were a little older I would say they came from that pool in “voyage of the dawn treader” where anything you dip into it gets turned to gold. =) But they are probably too young for that.

I keep telling jason we need pictures of you guys, but he is a little slow… Any chance I can get you to email me or märia some pictures of you guys? wedding pictures or casual, whatever. Just pictures that you like. =)

  2. Little ones have such a vivid imagination. It makes me feel younger to be around them. A few years ago, one the little kindergarten boys insisted for weeks that we were going to get married. His dad showed up at school to have lunch with him and I asked Clayton if he had told his dad about us. Clayton kept his head down and would not look at either of us. Of course, his dad egged it on, especially after I said “but you said you wanted to marry me!” Clayton kept his head down and did a sideways glance at this dad and whispered to him loudly “but Dad – she’s old!” I leaned over and told him I may be old but my hearing was still good. How precious they each are and how blessed we are to be a part of their lives.
