I’m 25. Can you believe it? Why am I a loser you ask? I got more Happy Birthdays in my inbox from people I didn’t know than I got phone calls and cards this year. I have become far too caught up in this internet game. Losing my social skills, I have really. I’m fine at work. But church and other normal everyday activities not so much. Previously, I had attributed it to the fact that I don’t have my children at work and so I can hold a normal conversation. However at church or everywhere else I can’t hold one as I’m always worried about what my children are going to do next (I’m sure it seems like I don’t care to the people I’m talking to). But now, I’m thinking maybe it has to do with a self-imposed lack of opportunities to fine tune my interpersonal communication skills (wow did that last sentence sound like I whipped it out of college textbook or what).

I apologize, this was written last saturday about last saturday, but I realized I messed the map all up and didn’t want to go back through and fix it right then, so I saved it for later and later never came. So here it is in all it’s imperfect glory. I left the aquarium and kapiolani park out of the map. That probably adds 3-4 miles to our trip. =)

———————————

So we had lots of fun today. We went off to downtown Honolulu this morning, parked the car (Point A) and walked to the Royal Hawaiian Apple Store grand opening. It was the same as the Kahala Apple Store opening, long lines, loud music and free tshirts. Lots of fun. =) Seporah and Felicity were both really good, so it worked out well enough. Then we rode our bikes to the flee market on Diamond Head Road (halfway between b and c) and bought some bread, honey and drank some water. Mostly we just needed a quick break, as the bike ride up Diamond Head Road is all uphill. So after our break we rode the rest of the way up to the opening to Diamond Head Crater, and briefly considered hiking up it, but were worn out enough, and the sun was coming out, so we decided not to hike up. So we rode back down the hill, and since the wind was in our face we felt much better than going up the hill.

Yeah, I know, I didn’t finish this post, or proofread it, or anything. Sorry =)

Mind you one of the many reasons I do not have a playlist (besides the fact that this website is not exclusively mine) is that the playlist would only look like this today, tomorrow it would look different and the day after even more different and that’s too much work (PLUS I don’t know how to actually make one of those playlist that go on the side of blogs anyways).

Do I run like Top 40s or what, no originally at all…

But seriously, how do you put a playlist on the side?

So I love to read. I use to go to the library until my husband asked me to check out The Neverending Story and didn’t return it for 3 months giving me a $35 fine. I suppose I could pay the fine and then go back. But the girls don’t do so well in libraries. We end up staying for like 15 minutes and that’s it due to loud behavior.

Borders is a circus compared to the library. People drink their coffee from the attached coffee shop and browse through the magazines and talk too much, it’s great. We go as a family all the time. Take forever to pick out one book. Bring it home and get to curl up and read it, or at least the first page, over, and over, and over due to “interruptions”. So I’ve actually got (more than) a few books on the shelf that I really, really want to read. I am currently consuming East of Eden by John Steinbeck (yes that is the Of Mice and Men guy). I’m planning on reading The Golden Compass next, hopefully getting to it one of these days. And one day I’m going to join a book club. I went to one once but I didn’t understand what a book club was and I didn’t read the book beforehand and I felt really stupid cause everyone was like what did you think abut chapter 5 and then they were like what do you mean you didn’t know you were suppose to read the book beforehand, that’s the point of a book club. But anyways, the fact that I have too many books that need read does not deter Steven or me from Borders (I think we just like the atmosphere).

A couple of weeks ago I decided to not look at the books but at the accessories (something I never do). And I picked up these totally cool colored pencils and a journal. The colored pencils are triangular so they don’t roll off the table (but the container’s round so it can) and it comes with a sharpener. (Steven thought I bought the colored pencils for the kids though, I was like nope, they’re mine, if they break them under your watch I get a new set). And the book doesn’t have lines in it so you can doodle and it’s sturdy so it can bounce right back after being shoved in the diaper bag. I think they’re awesome. It’s so bad though, my life is so boring my journal just has a bunch of lists. I was thinking I write all sorts of things on my blog, can’t I think of one sentence to write in the journal? Apparently not, just “milk, eggs, bread”.

Aren’t they cool? Is the word “cool” cool anymore? Probably not, I’ve heard Josh talk and I don’t think he uses the word cool. Isn’t it weird to think I’m getting old? Almost a quarter of a century. At least I didn’t say rad.

It holds all the same nutritional value as your prenatal vitamin, but they tastes WAY better and wont make you want to choke or vomit. You can actually rationalize the 175 calories better than “well the baby’s hungry.” The only problem is how are you going to rationalize it when you’ve stopped nursing and you still want it.

So Seporah will be 3 Dec 30th. This means she will be done with nursery and moving up into primary. She will be the VERY youngest child there due to her birthday. Most children who go to primary are potty trained, the teachers like it that way. However this whole potty training thing, not going so hot. She takes off the diaper and the shorts, she sits on the potty, she reads the potty books, uses the toilet paper, flushes the potty, washes her hands and helps get dressed. But is there any poo-poos or pee-pees in the potty? No, nada, zip, zero. In 12 months, she has pooed on the potty once because Dad saw she was going to go and put her on it and that totally freaked her out. I don’t think she has a clue what’s going on. We (almost entirely Steven) did intense potty training last week without any results, except huge temper tantrums about having to sit on the potty AGAIN.

So I thought I’d try it Sarah S.’s way. This way you need a doll that pottys in a toy potty. Off to Walmart, holy crap, a peeing and pooping doll cost $67?!?!?! And you have to buy the dolly food for it to work, dolly food refills costing $6 each. I was like stop me before I have a heart attack. No, not spending that kind of money on a doll, craig’s list, darn, nothing there. So back to square one.

I had heard people say it took them 2 years to potty train a kid and I didn’t understand why. Now I do, potty training not so much fun. I guess I’m glad I use cloth diapers, because my kid still poops like crazy and disposables cost way too much for me to continue to be buying them. I still change 12 diapers a day (and when they both get sick with diarrhea watch out, it gets up to 30 or more). I swear I deserve a medal for that (Steven too) or at least a merit badge. www.mamameritbadges.com (ha, are these not the greatest!)

Seriously though, I really think she’s going to primary in diapers, I wonder if that will be an issue? I mean I’ve taught sunbeams on more than one occasion and I’ve never had a kid in diapers. I’m wondering if they won’t let her go. If they’ll just keep her in nursery. Any thoughts?

When one child has a melt down in the store while you are trying to buy finger paints for both of them to play with, the other will also melt down. They’ll scream on the ride home without the finger paints since you left the store without buying them and then when you put them in bed for quiet/calm down time, they’ll see who can scream louder. It’s great. It’s like an object in motion stays in motion, a child screaming stays screaming.

And I keep on forgetting this, but when you leave the cart with all the stuff in it, carrying 60 lbs of screaming children gets really heavy after about 100 feet. Just forget about making the screaming toddler walk, she doesn’t care about the onlookers or anything else for that matter.

As we walked in, I smelled their pizza and I was like I so know what we’re having for dinner. It’s the kind of pizza where you break out from just looking at it. And when you actually consume it, the grease oozes out through your pores. I usually don’t get all yeah for pizza, but today, it was good.

I keep on having all these ideas to write posts about and I start them and then they are REALLY boring, I mean not funny at all. And so I just delete them so you don’t have to go wow, Märia’s really stretching here. Consequently I haven’t been posting much and you don’t know the inner workings of my slightly monotonous life (wake up, change diapers, feed kids, go to sleep, wake up, go to work, come home, go to sleep). I try to make it sound interesting and I mean anyone can make their life sound interesting with a little imagination. So here I go again:

Steven has had a bike for about a year and a half, he rides it everywhere and takes the girls along for rides, either one at a time in the bike seat or both in the bike trailer. We’ve been saying forever that I need one so we can go on family bike rides. Well I finally got one last week, I was more than a little nervous when I got a baby bike seat on the back. Please realize the last time I was on a bike was when I was 15 years old and found myself scraped up in a ditch. Everything has turned out ok though, no one’s died or even got any owies (well if you don’t count my sore legs).

Seporah thinks bike riding is a blast, except for the helmet part, but has come to accept the fact if she wants to go “weee” down the hill she must wear it. Felicity on the other hand is my little pansy and starts griping as soon as she sees the helmets or bikes.

In other news, all of us did a 5k on Saturday, our time being 33:44, almost a minute better than my last 5k. Go Jason, btw, on the marathon goal. I’m still working on the 5ks, they are so kicking my butt, but I’m doing them. There’s a 10 mile on Thanksgiving that I’m gonna go for, let’s see how dead I am after that one.

Well everyone, It’s been awhile since I’ve talked to you. I feel like I owe you an update, but that is the problem with why I don’t post. I sit down to write what has happened in the last 5 months, get three paragraphs in, and decide it’s time to go work on homework or take a nap. So I am going to try and tell you what is going on NOW, and in the near future. I am very disapointed in myself:

I haven’t done anything creative in months. I read like 14 webcomics daily.. I think to myself. I could do this.. if I had any talent whatsoever. I am very disapointed, I wanted to spend this semester doing more writing… I wanted to spend this whole year really exploring the edges of my talent.

I have gained nearly 30 lbs since getting married and leaving the marine corps. I am REALLY out of shape, and can’t seem to run from here to there without collapsing. (quote from “a few good men”.) None of my old Larges fit me.. and once again.. it KILLS ME to run.. something I used to love doing.

I have come to only one conclusion with my self hatred in these regards. I am confessing to each and every one of you, and extending an invitation as well. I am DONE with this. I have a resolution, and I have a determination, and a goal in mind. (yes I have all 3). They are as follows:

           1. I am going to run the Arizona Rock & Roll Marathon on January 18, 2009.I am going to run 4 miles a day until I can do so without walking, then I am going to do it until I like doing it. Then I am going to run 6 miles a day as well. (at least 5 days a week)

           2. I am inviting Russ, Steven, or pretty much anyone else I’m related to (who thinks they can do it) to come join me. I will host you in my home, and I will pay your way in ((but you have to get yourself to San Diego or Yuma, for me to pick you up :-( ))

           3. I am going to lose 20 lbs before the marathon. I do not know my exact weight right now.. but you will be informed soon, as I track my weight progress.

           4. I am going to be giving up video games for the entire month of November. I will be participating in National Novel Writing Month. This is going to be a major challenge, and I’m told that most won’t finish, I am going to try and beat the odds. I invite Steven, or anyone else who desires to join me, and we will read each other’s books after we are done.

I can feel you all cheering me on already :-), I just hope some of you will cheer me on… while WE are doing it. *cough* Steven *cough* Russell *cough*

Let me know by Nov the 15th (I think) Then the price goes up.

Thank you all, and Russ I’m sorry for not getting back to all your comments. I always told myself that I would do it later.. but later never got here.

Who makes up this stuff, really? I work tomorrow and as such I’m thinking of getting an eyepatch, a big dangling earring (or I could use the one who’s missing it’s mate from yesterday), and a red oily head scarf. I do work on a kid’s floor, and the people I work with, pretty close to kids.

So being a pediatric nurse has it’s advantages and disadvantages.

For example, let’s pretend that when the girls and I got ready to go swimming, I set my earrings down at a level that were within reach of Felicity. And perhaps I turn away for a moment and then look down and see an earring in Felicity’s mouth. I take it out of her mouth and go to look for it’s mate, not being able to find it. Theoretically my conclusion would be that Felicity swallowed it. And let’s say in this example, the earring is not a little tiny one, but a BIG one, with a ball hanging and a pointy end that could potentially puncture internal organs.

The advantage of this example is that I could sideswipe the ER entirely and call up the docs I work with. “Hey Dr. O, can you put in an order for an Xray?” I then go and get the the Xray and Felicity has apparently not swallowed the earring. The disadvantage to this example is that once again my colleges have reaffirmed that I am a worry wort mother, the kind we all try to avoid.

btw, if this example were to be real, I would still be down an earring.

So Birthday Season is almost upon us. Mom’s birthday is October, Felicity’s in November, Seporah’s and Christ’s in December, and Dad’s in January. Let me start off by reminding everyone 4 people live in a 800sq ft condo on the 4th floor with no storage. The past 3 months we have spent a lot of effort getting a lot of stuff out of the house. Clothes, books, toys, junk. Living in such tight quarters means if you aren’t using it, it gets tossed. We finally have an almost organized house and this year we aren’t giving gifts. We know toys are fun to buy for children, believe me I know, but please no gifts this year. Cards, pictures, letters and all mushy stuff will gladly be accepted. Thank you, and now back to your regularly scheduled blog.
