So I was all in love with the Mr Men and Little Misses books when I was a kid. They were AWESOME. When I figured out I was marrying Mr. Rushing, I had to run out and buy the Mr. Rush book for him. About a year ago I started seeing Mr Men and Little Miss products here and there. I have a scrub top with Little Miss Helper and Mr Bump and Seporah has a Little Miss Sunshine shirt. It wasn’t until later I realized they had made it into a show. Just thought I’d show everyone. Super cute. Seporah and Felicity love it, they call it Little Sunshine Show. And really my daughters are not afraid of anyone, they ARE Little Miss Sunshine and Little Miss Aloha.

Seporah’s Preschool Graduation

Seporah’s Preschool Graduation was today. We thought we’d show you pictures and videos of our big love bug getting so big. The candy around her neck is a tradition here in Hawaii. During graduation it’s common to get many leis and since she’s a little keiki, most of them were candy leis. Seporah totally hammed up the singing and dancing, a little too much on the second song to where she landed on her booty.

One Good Man

When Mormons starting making movies a decade or so ago they were really good. Then they started mass producing them when they realized the loyalty of the market base – making the majority of them really, really sucky. I haven’t seen a good LDS cinematic film in a few years. Steven and I watched One Good Man last night and I’ll tell you what, I loved it. It was just a good movie about a man trying to do the best he could. It’s market base is specifically the LDS population as a large portion of the dialect is written in Mormonise (the movie didn’t even try to explain stake presidents or the MTC or any of a number of different common place things in the LDS world). I’d also like to say the lighting and cinematography deserves a nodding at least, it was very well shot. Steven’s complaint was he didn’t like all the piano pieces in place of action or dialogue. I thought it was fine, but then I get into mushy drama movies where everyone starts crying and the music gets louder.

Märia had yesterday off which is pretty rare for a Saturday. It happened to coincide with the Baby Expo which happens every year down in Honolulu. It is something like a big carnival for expecting mothers. But they have things for children and mothers of children all the way up to 3 or 4. Seporah and Felicity both had lots of fun playing in the play area with me while Mom went and checked out all the baby/toddler stuff. They even had a bouncy house that the kids got to play in.

After the expo we went to the Hawaii Ice Palace to do some ice skating. We have lived here for 4 years and never been, so we thought it was about time. I keep forgetting that Märia never ice skated growing up. In my mind she is from Washington State, where they play hockey and get snow and live 2 hours from Canada where they play hockey and get snow. She had never skated before she met me and now has only been twice. I probably ice skated 20 times growing up, and roller skated more than I could hope to remember.

Anyway, it was lots of fun. Seporah wouldn’t let us help after maybe the first 5 minutes. She was convinced she could do it. And no matter how many times she fell down she kept getting up and was upset when we finally had to leave because it got late enough that they closed down the little kid area. Märia was utterly exhausted anyway as she had only had maybe 5.5 hours sleep after working the night before and had run all over the expo previously.

Yogurt Bars

So there’s these restaurants that have popped up all over Hawaii, YogoCrazy, Yogurt Mama’s, Menchie’s and some others I can’t remember. What they are are these build your own yogurt bars (I don’t think I’ve talked about them before if I have just skip to the video). There’s usually 15-30 different flavors of soft serve frozen yogurt and 30-40 toppings that you can mix all together. Delious. Steven almost always picks plain vanilla with no toppings (I know, I know, I’m working on him), but today he went out on a limb and got chocolate with no toppings (told you I was working on him). The girls get as many as I’ll let them and then drizzle it with either m&m’s or rainbow sprinkles. I like strawberry yogurt, taro yogurt and cheesecake chunks or I also like strawberry yogurt, mango yogurt with strawberry and mango chunks mixed in. Yum. Anyways the girls LOVE it. They call them The Ice Cream Shop. Everyone I’ve talked to who’s not in Hawaii says they’ve never heard of it, so now I’m asking is there a Menchie’s where you live?

One more thing to add to the list of things not to say in class:

*Instructor lectured on persecution of Jews during the bubonic plague, otherwise known as black death, in which 1/3 of humanity on earth died.

- Random clueless student: “Dr. Rosenfeld, why were the Jews persecuted?”

- Me: “Because they were Jews!”

The class immediately erupts in both jeers and laughter, half the class thinking I am making fun of Jews and laughing about it, and the other half thinking I am making fun of Jews and booing me. The only two people in the classroom not laughing are me and the instructor (who is of Jewish descent, if you didn’t catch it from the name!) He immediately calms down the class, clarifying my statement by saying that what I meant was that that is just what was done to Jews in the day, and has been done to Jews for thousands of years. Anyway, it was interesting.

So yeah, class is over with. WooHoo. Next week I just have 2 finals, a few final papers due, and a end of semester party. We are all looking forward to visiting Washington!

Märia and I have been reading lots of books recently… I have read Superfreakonomics (superfun!) and a biography on Ayn Rand. The lady was genius and crazy all swirled up. =)

Me, Mom, Seporah and Felicity all made and decorated and baked a gingerbread man at Seporah’s school the other day. Everyone had fun.

Ow! My nose!

So my first week of annual training in the guard was all Combat Life Saver class, which I took active side probably 5 times. So I really kinda just blew off the class. I sat all the way in the back and goofed off with the others in my unit, who were also all prior service and had also all taken the class multiple times. Not a bad idea for me. Or the other 2 E-4s. But the Sgt who was in charge of us should have been upfront. He comes off as a really smart guy, really! But when the test hit, well, lets just say it wasn’t pretty.

As for me, I aced the test, got my IV stick on the first try, and did well enough that 2 others who just wanted IVs, but couldn’t find anyone that could hit them, including the Medics, asked me to get them and I did them too! So 3 IVs in 3 tries. I offered myself as a vein donor because towards the end there were lots of people who had missed 8-10 times and we were running out of veins. So I volunteered myself and got stuck 8 times. And since I was kind of walking them through the procedure and actually put my own catheter in once, I was only missed twice. 6 successful IVs!

But last of all is this little beauty. Talk about uncomfortable.

John Mayer, Jack Johnson, Jason Mrez, all 3 good laid back, soft alternative musicians that no one can keep straight. Let me help. John Mayer is the Mac guy. Jack Johnson is the Hawaiian guy. And Jason Mrez is what’s left over.

John Mayer just redid Free Fallin’. Initially I didn’t really like the remake (Steven still doesn’t). But after hearing it a few times, I can’t get it out of my head.
