Ok…… so am I the only person who doesn’t know about this fictional character (i.e.. the great pumpkin)? Well this is how it started for me.

I over heard one of my students talking about the present that The Great Pumpkin brought to him over our break. At first I didn’t think much of it. But then over the next few moments I started wondering…. was this character like a Santa Claus for Halloween? I had never heard of it before so to make sure I was on the right track I asked….

“Owen… did the great pumpkin give you a present on the night of Halloween?”

“Yeah… I got a ( I don’t remember what he said) from the great pumpkin. He came while we were sleeping.”

At this point I couldn’t believe it. Don’t get me wrong… I’ve always embraced and had fun with Santa but now I sort of felt like Mr. Claus had an imposter! I guess at that point I asked myself: “Is there a way to over do this gift giving character role?” In all honestly I wasn’t surprised that this student’s mother encouraged it. I could tell she was one of those super moms that interacted 100 % with her kids and loved to celebrate the holidays with them. I think I was more shocked to realize that I had never even heard of it before.

Well… then about 3 or 4 days ago all this came back to me. I was thinking about it and thought I would ask Jas if he had ever heard of The Great Pumpkin. Wait……. Can you guess the answer he gave?

“Oh yeah, I’ve heard of it.”

“Really?!!!!!”

“Yeah it was Christianity’s first attempt to try and create an alternative to a dark and pagan holiday.”

HOW DOES HE KNOW ALL THIS STUFF? I GUESS I SHOULD ALWAYS GO TO MY WALKING DICTIONARY/HISTORIAN WHENEVER I’M NOT SURE ABOUT SOMETHING. HEE HEE

So that is why I asked you. I just wanted to see if perhaps it was just MY family that never took an interest in this character. There is one thing for sure though….. I don’t think our kids will really know who the great pumpkin is either, til they maybe are grown and gone. Then perhaps they will have to ask a smart spouse to find out…….

“Just Who In World Is THE GREAT PUMPKIN Anyway?

P.s.

Apparently… I didn’t watched enough Charlie Brown as a child

So I have to tell you all about what Jas did last night for me. So it was officially our 1 year anniversary from the time e-harmony matched us up together. Never did it cross my mind… but it did his. As I was leaving work he called and asked if I could go get a movie for us. I said sure and figured something was up… but didn’t know what was waiting for me. When I got home.. walked in the door… there was a big blanket thrown out over the living room floor with two plates filled with dinner! He had cooked me dinner! (the man that swears he can’t cook) And not only that, he was holding out a boquet of white roses to me in a room only lit by candles. I couldn’t believe it…. I racked my brain as to what the special event was… but he then asked me: “Do you know what today is?” Ashamed… I answered no. He then told me that it was the one year anniversary of when we were matched together. I couldn’t believe it……… !!! but guess what my next thought was? All I thought about next was how stupid I felt for not even recognizing the importance of the day much less… actually do something for him. *BIG SIGH*
But it was pretty much perfect. He even tried to some what recreate the meal we had. I’m not eating carbs right now so I couldn’t eat potatoes… so he just got some chicken tenders and actually managed to make home-made gravy to go on top of them. What else was on this plate? Cole Slaw, black-eyed peas, grapes and a salad. Then for dessert he fixed a home-made frapp. Let me tell you, I DID feel special. He also put together a binder filled with all of the information we had on each of us on e-harmony. I guess he was up to 5 or so in the morning that night before trying to get it all done and put all the messages we sent back and forth in order. I’ll have to show it to you when you get back. I just thought I would brag for a few moments about what an amazing husband I have.

P.s. I think I have made my decision. Now I only have to break the news to Brady.

So I was proposed to today. It went like this:

The whole class was having a blast making oatmeal chocolate chip cookies when little Brady popped the question.

“Sarah (Se..wah) will marry (me..wee) me?”

” What did you say Brady?”

” Will marry (me.. wee) me?

“ Well where is my ring, Brady?”

                ” I don’t ’hab’ one.”

“Well, when did you want me to marry you?”

                “ How bout ’wight’ now?”

I couldn’t believe my ears. Did my little 2 year old student just ask me to marry him? He sure did. Don’t worry guys… I played the ’hard to get’ card. After his request I told him I couldn’t because I didn’t have a wedding dress to wear. He soon looked me over and said:

“yes you ‘hab’ a ‘dwess’ on.”

He was correct. This morning I decided to wear one of my summer dresses before the weather got too cold. So I thought about another excuse

“But Brady… I don’t have any pretty flowers to hold. I have to have pretty flowers to hold if I am going to get married.”

This was a tough one for this little guy. He thought and thought and then replied:

” but miss ‘Se..wah’ ‘yo’ ’dwess’ has ‘pwity’ ‘fowers’ on it.”

As if to ask, isn’t that good enough? I was left speechless , he got me. I knew then that he had a suave way about him that would make any girls heart melt. Even the heart of his 25 year old preschool teacher.

” Why would a mom test her breast milk for alcohol?
Because every mother is unique! Naturally, the way our bodies process alcohol is unique, too. Metabolizing alcohol depends on several factors including: Body weight, Type of alcohol consumed, and Food intake. ”

” In the past, there were only generalized guidelines for the questions surrounding breast feeding after consuming alcohol. Now, with milkscreen™, there is one simple and accurate method to let Mom know if her milk contains a level of alcohol that may negatively impact baby. ”

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS WORLD??

I WOULD JUST LIKE TO KNOW HOW MANY OF YOU OUT THERE WOULD AGREE WITH ME AND SAY THAT OUR PRIORITIES ARE WHACKED. THIS JUST SCREAMS SELFISHNESS TO ME. NO LONGER IS THE BABY’S HEALTH OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY… BUT RATHER IT HAS TO SHARE THAT POSITION WITH HAVING A “GOOD TIME”. I DON’T APOLOGIZE IF I HAVE OFFENDED ANYONE WHO MAY LIKE TO CONSUME AN ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE WHILE NURSING. THIS JUST HAS OPENED MY EYES OF HOW SICK THIS WORLD REALLY IS.

I know you wanna know… you are looking at that title… and you are DYING TO KNOW. Well.. I’ll tell you.

This story begins when I finally got to come home from work. I had a few errands to do around town before reaching my destination. So tired is too mild of a word to describe how I felt. I came in, set my stuff down, gave Jason a hug, used the restroom, then made my way to the bedroom where Jason had just gone into. We began to talk and tell eachother about our day WHEN I realised that our dog was gnawing on something. I had heard this same sound moments earlier but didn’t think much of it. Bella loves go pull wrappers out of the trash. And in this moment I was just too tired to care or chase her down just to throw it away for the second time. So I IGNORED…. Not a good choice in this case.

Not too long after that initial notification…. something inside me said, “you need to see what she has gotten a hold of.” Turning my body in a way that allowed me to see the floor where she sat, I realised that I had made a huge mistake in not taking interest sooner.

OUR DOG CONSUMED NEARLY A WHOLE PACK OF BIRTH CONTROL PILLS! We didn’t know what to think or do. I freaked out while Jason looked up and called a local Vet. His advice was to give her a teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting. He then said that we should call the animal poison control #. There would be a $60 charge to hear their verdict……… SO WE THOUGHT ABOUT IT. We both knew that neither of us would be able to live with ourselves if something serious would happen to her from our desire to save $60.

So Jason dialed the number, told the lady what happened, she asked many questions about many things including the type of pill it was, then the verdict was in:

It doesn’t appear to be harmful for a dog to take a months worth of ‘no baby pills’. We were told she may feel a little nausiated and throw up or have diarrea, but other than that…… our dog is completely fine. We are also quite confidant we will not be having puppies any time soon

                                                                             PHEW!

I think they should revise the warning lable:

! WARNING- Don’t leave medication laying on your night stand, it may be consumed by household pet !

So I was asked today by two of my afternoon kids where goldfish crackers came from. I thought about it and was going to tell them that they probably bought them at Walmart or Costco. But before I could answer one of them asked… “do they come from the ocean?” Then the other child asked, “did you have to go and catch them.” I could hardly contain my laughter. So I called the other teacher in and had the children ask her the same questions. She too laughed and asked them if they smelt like they came from the ocean. Both the girls picked one up… put it to their nose and took a big sniff. Then in almost one unison voice they announced that … “yes, they do smell like they came from the ocean.” So it’s obvious that these girls were listening during circle time and the discussions that were made about water, who and what needs water, and how important it is for our world. And in the end… I don’t think we ever did tell them where goldfish crackers really come from. Hee Hee

I thought walmart would be busy today being Labor Day and also being the 1st of the month.. but that part wasn’t bad. I honestly feel as if I got my work out today by just walking back and forth ALL over the food section.

What do you do if you are a victum of an insect wanting to take up residence in your…. EAR?

It all began when I was showing off my little Bella to one of my swimming students. We were having a rather interesting conversation when something flew directly into my ear! I sort of froze in shock and then preceeded to yell as well as attempt to dig this creature out of my ear. When the use of my finger didn’t work I moved on to the pool. I thought I could perhaps flush it out. SO I TRIED…. At one point two of my students told me it was coming out. In a panic I attempted to pick it out. NO GOOD! After this…. it disappeard. Was it still in my ear? The girls tried to reasure me that it had probably came out. But you see… I have absolutely no evidence to back up that claim!

Unfortunately… I have been one of these victims. So Please, I need some advice.

Alright so yesterday Jason and I, along with my family, decided to go visit some dealerships to see what they had as far as “newer” used cars went. My car just recently decided that it wanted to die and never be revived again. It was ready to go to car heaven, if there is such a place hee hee. It isn’t always easy borrowing a car to get to work. So we looked… There were a couple of cars that caught my eye at the first dealership but we all decided that it wasn’t smart to just grab something at the first place you look. So we went to lunch, made a call to a guy who normally would be able to give us a good deal on a car. We then soon found out that he didn’t have cars that fit what I was looking for so we made our way to the second dealership. I noticed right off that this place didn’t have quite as big of a selection as the first one but we went ahead and walked around, heard the pitch for every car, and decided that none of them were really going to work. When it was apparent that none of the cars were striking our fancy the salesman informed us that they had another lot just down the street with more cars if we would like to go look at them. I looked at Jason and he looked at me and we thought , why not? So off to the third location we went.

Once again, I wasn’t really impressed with anything they had there. Perhaps I’m a bit picky? That could be but there are two things that I really wanted to shoot for. A NEWER used car so that it would most likely last a while for Jason and I, and secondly that it isn’t black. Why should the color matter? Well come live with Jason and I this summer for week and you will know why I would prefer to have White or some light color . Needless to say… I was a bit down. I had wanted to go home with a new car but I wasn’t going to be foolish and just pick something that wasn’t good for what Jason and I needed. Right when we were about to leave this third location the salesman brought out some kind of a higher boss to “talk” to us. He then gave his pitch about how he would be able to find a car that would be exactly what we wanted. When he found out that Jason and I were engaged, and really didn’t have any money, he told us about this one car that he would be willing to sell to us since he knew we were in need of something on the lower cost end that was dependable. Here was the clincher… it was back at that other lot! I didn’t really trust this guy’s overwhelming desire to give us a break but oh well, “we might as well look”, I thought to myself.

The car was actually quite nice. You could definitely tell that it was a newer car and it didn’t appear to have anything broken on the inside. Jason and I also took it for a test drive and it drove pretty nice. Was it my favorite? No and Jason saw that on my face so we all had a pow wow. Both Jason and my dad thought that we should first see if we could get the first dealership to come down any on the car I actually liked. So that is where we are now; in the midst of seeing who can come down the lowest.

I’ve got my fingers crossed!!!!!!

In two days I will begin the long journey to Temple, Tx.

Am I looking forward to the trip? Well yes… and no. I absolutely cannot wait to be able to go back there and meet some of Jason’s family while surveying the landscape. I have been told that it is a very pretty area with nice green rolling hills. That sounds wonderful to a girl who has been raised her whole life in the desert. The color we see most year round is…well… brown. Not to exciting I have to admit. So yes I am excited and looking forward to acquainting myself to part of Jason’s family and old stomping grounds.

BUT….

The 20 hours of sitting in a car that’s needed in order for us to reach our destination is not appealing to me one bit. I’ve never been much of a traveler. I have a tendency to get car sick as soon as the wheels start moving. There have been a couple people who have suggested that I should try Dramamine. I think I will take their advice, Walmart here I come!

Despite my sick stomach I will have the opportunity to spend those 20 hours talking with Jason. Talking to each other may require a bit of yelling due to windows being rolled down from the lack of having an air conditioner but… it will be an adventure to remember always.

Soo… See you guys when I get there!!!

The exciting side of planning:

Invitation samples are on their way. I was told recently to look on Costco.com and see the invitations they have on there. I found a couple that I liked so I ordered samples to be sent to me. Hopefully they come in soon so Jason and I can take a look and see if any of them will work.

——I only wish that message would have been attached to the book and I would have seen it before I read it!!!

As a preschool teacher I’m usually the one to read the children a story before nap time. This usally helps them calm down a bit so that they can rest. Today was different though, The book I chose wasn’t the best one for me to choose for this particular audience. I guess it was a little too scary for one of my students. As soon as I read the book I left to go on my lunch break. Not 5 min later I recieved a call on my cell phone due to a child crying uncontrollably with the fear of dying. When I told him that he wouldn’t die unless he tried to swallow a horse (must read book to understand!) he told me that he was afraid that he was going to dream that he swallowed a horse and that he would die. I tried to calm his fears the best I could. WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT????

Well, Hello everyone! My name is Sarah Ming and I am soon to become a Rushing. Yes yes yes, he finally asked me (I was about to have to take your advice Märia)! But let me tell you that when he walked in at 1:30 am that was the VERY last thing I thought he was doing. So let me tell you the whole story…

This story begins by my trip to the far and distant place referred to as Oceanside. Jason and I had been planning all week that I would be coming up there to spend the weekend with him. I usually work until 5:30 pm as a preschool teacher of 2 and 3 year olds. On this particular Friday I was blessed enough to actually get off at 5:30, on the dot. So I literally ran home, grabbed my stuff, and left my house right at 6:00 pm. As I found myself hurrying around my house to get everything packed up after a long day of work, it came to me that I just might be able to surprise him a bit by showing up a little earlier than “planned”. Little did I know then that what turned out to be a pure-hearted intention became a huge stumbling block for the plans he had.

You all should have seen the look on his face when I walked in through the door. It wasn’t surprised, happy, or excited like I had hoped I would see, but instead it was a bit of disappointment and an “Oh no” look. I didn’t know exactly how to interpret that so I just chose to brush it off, give him a hug and say: “Surprise!” The rest of the evening went great. But it was soon going to become a night/early morning I will never forget.

I finally announced at about 1:15 am that I needed to go to bed or I would be totally useless Saturday. He agreed that we should both get some rest so I crawled into bed as he headed off towards the couch in the living room. He came back in briefly to “grab a pair of sweats and T-shirt” to sleep in. After he left the room for the second time I realized how bright the room was with both of his computer screens on and a candle still lit. So I sluggishly rolled out of bed and walked into the other room and asked if he could come turn them off for me. He said: “oh yeah, I was just about to come back in there.” I thought that was strange because we had already said our good nights… I found myself thinking: “why?” So I just went back in, curled up in bed and started drifting off into dreamland when…

I opened my eyes to find Jason sitting on the edge of the bed facing his computer desk with a guitar sitting in his lap. Believe me, part of me thought this a bit strange but the other part of me said “it’s Jason” and you guys probably know what I mean J . He then began to strum a quiet tune on the guitar, as quietly as he could, without waking up the other sleeping people in the house while I could still hear it.

He then pulled out a small white box and gave me the most adorable smile. I guess you can say that I had my freaking out moment saying “oh my gosh” and pulled the covers over my head. Let’s just say that I knew the question was coming for a while now, but never did I suspect that would have been the moment. But you know what? I wouldn’t want to change any of it. I am going to be marrying the man that I love, the man I respect, and the man I want to spend my entire life with. So you know what this means don’t you??????

I’m going to be a Rushing!!!!!!

P. S. And you guys all have to listen to me now
