Here’s Hoping For a Good Year in Kindergarden
We had Seporah’s IEP (Individualized Education Plan) meeting today for school. It went about how Steven and I had expected. Seporah’s progressing well, but still behind in some areas including speech and socially. The plan for next year is Seporah will go into a regular Kindergarden for most of the day and have a helper during that time and then go to Special Education about 2 hours a day for language arts/speech and math. The helper will be there in the classroom, but not right next to her holding her hand and such. Which is good because we don’t want her to develop a dependence on someone else.
We just found out her teacher is not returning to the school next year due to family issues. We’re really sorry to see her go especially since she’s been so great with Seporah, but we do understand that family comes first. She really is a wonderful teacher and Steven and I feel quite blessed that Seporah was placed in her class. When we first realized Seporah needed more attention than we could give her and the most likely place she was going to get it was Hawaii’s public school system, we were worried. Hawaii’s public school system is dead last in the nation. But thankfully it has been a very positive experience and we can see significant growth in Seporah over the last year. Growth that I’m sure would not have happened had we not had her in school.
Update on my knee
24 hours later my knee is darn near as swolen with fluid as it was before they drained it and now it hurts (it didn’t before). This is no fun at all.
Civilian Doctors are a 1000% improvement over their military variety
Märia would probably disagree with me though. She works with military doctors every day and the ones that she works with are probably way better than the ones I ever saw. It is probably because her docs are working with kids while my docs worked with active duty military all day.
In any case, I saw my first civilian doctor yesterday due to a month long case of horrible wheezing after what Märia called 5 days of pneumonia. I also wanted to ask about my right knee which has been swollen and numb for about a month. Of course as soon as I get to the doctor’s office my lungs sound perfect, more than perfect. It was a little annoying but nice. My knee though… They decided to take a big needle to it and pull out whatever was inside. They told me to hope for whitish/clear liquid, but it was possible they would get out yellow pussy liquid. If it was pussy it was infected, but if it was clear then the infection had passed but the water needed to be drained. Well, we didn’t get either of those options. We got 7 cc’s (that’s way more than you think it is!) of bloody fluid. My knee immediately felt better, not numb anymore. But they didn’t know why it came out so bloody, so it is being sent off for tests to see if there is an infection or what is going on with it. Sad thing is I woke up this morning and my knee is about half as bad as it was anyway. The swelling over the top of it is coming back super fast.
I haven’t posted about weight loss recently but that doesn’t mean I gave up or anything. It is just slow going. It has been 40 days today since my first personal weigh in when I really started trying to lose weight and I have lost 14 lbs. My chart is still available here and I will attach a chart at the bottom of this post.
