When you're a parent, everyone thinks they know more than you do and will give you their 2 cents without any encouragement. Breastfeeding is no different, women come up to me and tell me their breastfeeding story without prompting. I've had at least 10 different women that I can remember just sitting here thinking about it who said they didn't breastfeed because "after 9 months of not drinking, I wasn't going to wait any longer."

And I've never had a drop of alcohol, but there are days as a mother when I'd just like to get good and smashed. Not because I want to have a good time but because I'd like to forget the fact I've been barfed on 15 times one day, or calmed 6 hour long temper tantrums another day (yes both of those have actually happened, they are not exaggerations).

Anyways I encourage all women to breastfeed. And yes, Sarah and Jason, you guys will make great parents (and I'll add my 2 cents just like everyone else when the time comes).

I am Not very worried about anyone at this site consuming too much alcohol then breastfeeding.

I am, on the other hand, very certain there are wonderful breastfeeding mothers reading the posts here.

Hooray for you and your healthy babies!

Love,
Pam

BTW: Sarah & Jason, I am certain one day you will be wonderful parents! (no eye rolling here)

I couldn't disagree more. I had never heard of the atrocity of women choosing not to breastfeed because of their desire to drink. To the misfortune of liberal women, becoming a mother means the responsible thing to do is to put some of those hats away for a little while.
Just as becoming a father means you can't live unemployed (if you're wife isn't loaded), refuse to change diapers, or spend all night playing poker with 'the guys'. You don't lose your identity, or shed all semblances of self desire... but the 'Parent hat' in particular stays on your head, and the 'drinking mother' goes in the drawer until the baby is just a tad bit older.

((and remember.. I have no kids, so you can roll your eyes at me and ignore all that I say.))

There should be a HUGE warning label on the box that reads: just remember, these are the same children that will be taking care of you in your old age. Use wisely.

Some women choose not to breastfeed their babies AT ALL because they feel they cannot consume alcohol while breastfeeding. That is a tragedy. And as I doubt I can stop the whole of society from drinking, products like this can encourage a wider population of women to breastfeed.

Unfortunately society's view of mothers are just that, when women are mothers that is all they are, they have no other personality traits besides that. In reality mom is just one of many hats I wear (though drinker is not one of them ;)
